Have you ever wanted to know more about how cars get painted? Check out this information.
Do you want to try painting it yourself? Would you like to know more about the process? It is very time consuming. Here is the basic process for painting it.
First, you need to get everything you need together. Set aside several days or weekends to do it. If you can, put the car in a shed to avoid the elements while you are still doing the paint. You will need lots of wet and dry sandpaper (1200 and 2000-grit), a sander, masking tape, newspapers for masking, an air compressor with spray gun, a buffer, paint thinners, face masks, safety glasses, under coat, topcoat with acrylic or enamel paint. Finally, you will need clear-coat lacquer.
Make sure to clean up your work area. Sand the car using circular motions. The corners and crevices may need to be sanded by hand. You will get the best finish if you sand it down to the original metal. Each panel will take roughly two hours to complete.
Next, mask off the areas you don’t want to paint with masking tape, newspapers, and/or plastic sheeting. Mix your primer with the paint thinner to get the right consistency. Get a piece of a car from a junkyard or something to practice spraying before you do it on the car. You want to hold the spray gun approximately 6 inches away. Use a side-to-side sweeping motion, and keep spraying continuously.
Next, use the same spray technique for the main. It will take 10-15 minutes per panel. Allow 30 minutes for the paint to cure before going in for another coat.
If you are wanting to spruce up your car’s look you can try changing the color. Here are a few things to consider before you do that.
